first and last can sit in the middle of a path, for example collection.products.first.name.
map and sort read properties of objects, for example product.variants | map: 'price'.

Output

{% dump %} and json print the fields of an object, such as metafields and related products, instead of {}.

Metafields

A metafield namespace or key that does not exist is nil, so {% if product.metafields.reviews.rating %} is false when the product has no reviews.rating metafield.
