--- url: https://docs.youcan.shop/mcp.md --- # MCP server The YouCan MCP server connects AI assistants to a YouCan store. The assistant reads and changes the store through the [Store Admin API](/store-admin/introduction/getting-started): products, orders, customers, pages, coupons, shipping and more. ## Setup ### General * Server URL: `https://mcp.youcan.shop` * Transport: Streamable HTTP. * Authentication: OAuth. After you add the server, your client opens the YouCan consent screen. Log in, select a store and approve. * The connection gets full access to the selected store. Your client can ask you to confirm each change before it runs. ### Claude 1. Open Customize, then Connectors. 2. Select +, then Add custom connector. 3. Enter a name, for example `YouCan`, and the URL `https://mcp.youcan.shop`. Select Continue. 4. Under Authentication, select Sign in now. Under OAuth client, keep Use Claude's published identity. 5. Select Add, then log in and approve the connection. On a Free plan, you can add one custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds the connector in Organization settings, then Connectors: select Add, then Custom, then Web. Members then open Customize, then Connectors, and select Connect next to YouCan. To use the connector in a chat, select + in the chat box, then Connectors. ### ChatGPT 1. Open [Plugins](https://chatgpt.com/plugins) on ChatGPT web. 2. Select +, then Add custom MCP server. 3. Enter a name, for example `YouCan`. Under Connection, enter the server URL `https://mcp.youcan.shop`. 4. Under Authentication, select OAuth. 5. Review the risk warning and select I understand and want to continue. 6. Select Create as a plugin. 7. Open the plugin in your [personal plugins](https://chatgpt.com/plugins?view=personal), install it, then log in and approve the connection. To use the plugin in a chat, type `@` in the prompt box and select it. Workspace permissions apply on Business and Enterprise plans. ### Claude Code ```sh claude mcp add --transport http youcan https://mcp.youcan.shop ``` Then run `/mcp`, select `youcan` and select Authenticate. Your browser opens to log in. ### Cursor [Add to Cursor](cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=youcan\&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL21jcC55b3VjYW4uc2hvcCJ9), or add the server to `~/.cursor/mcp.json`: ```json { "mcpServers": { "youcan": { "url": "https://mcp.youcan.shop" } } } ``` Then open Customize in the sidebar, then MCPs, and log in to `youcan`. ### Visual Studio Code Run MCP: Add Server from the Command Palette, or add the server to `.mcp.json` at the root of your project. For all projects, use `~/.copilot/mcp-config.json`: ```json { "mcpServers": { "youcan": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.youcan.shop" } } } ``` VS Code starts the server when you send the next chat message and opens your browser to log in. ### Others Any client that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth can connect with the server URL. The client registers itself in one of two ways, and each has its own redirect URI rule: * Client ID metadata document: an `http` loopback address (`localhost`, `127.0.0.1` or `[::1]`, any port), or an HTTPS URI listed in the document. * Dynamic client registration: an `http` loopback address, or the callback of one of the clients above. ## Tools The server has tools for each area of the store: * Orders: list, read, create, pay, fulfill, close and change status. * Products: list, read, create, update, delete and change inventory. * Categories, coupons, customers and customer addresses, product reviews, upsells and menus. * Pages and the page builder, with a preview link before a page goes live. * Shipping zones and rates, checkout fields and checkout settings, store languages. * Store images, invoices, abandoned carts, webhooks and store information. * Metafields, read only. Only apps can write metafields, through the API. Each tool tells the client what it does: * Read tools only read data. * Write tools create or change data. Updates and deletes are marked as destructive, so the client asks you before it runs them. * No tool moves money. `pay_order` and `update_order_payment_status` only record the payment status of an order. * `register_store` creates a new store on your YouCan account. It is the only tool that acts outside the selected store. ## Data and privacy The assistant reads store data when you ask it to, including customer names, emails, phone numbers and addresses. YouCan sends this data to the provider of the assistant, which handles it under its own privacy policy. See the [YouCan privacy policy](https://youcan.shop/privacy). ## Disconnect You can end a connection in two places: * In your client, remove the YouCan connector. * In the seller area, open Settings, then Connected apps, and select Revoke next to the client. Its access ends at once. ## Common use cases ::: details Review today's orders "List today's orders that are not fulfilled yet, with the customer name and the total." ::: ::: details Update prices "Increase the price of every product in the Summer category by 10%." ::: ::: details Write product content "Write a description and SEO title for the product Linen shirt, in French." ::: ::: details Launch a promotion "Create a coupon SUMMER20 for 20% off, valid until the end of the month." ::: ::: details Build a landing page "Create a landing page for the new collection with a hero banner, three featured products and a FAQ." ::: ## FAQ ::: details Who can connect a store?
